These aren't your ordinary cottontails…. I recently stumbled upon a couple of domesticated bunnies running free through my neighborhood. Thursday evening as I was heading out for a pet sitting appt., I noticed a white and brown speckled bunny in my neighbor's yard. I had actually noticed this bunny a few weeks earlier but didn't think much of it. So, this time I found it kind of odd that this "house bunny" was hanging out in someone's front yard. I walked up to the rabbit, and surprisingly, it let me pet it! Then I noticed it had a little friend. Another bunny, except this one was tan colored. So, I approached that bunny and it let me pet it as well. Then I thought, this is so strange that there are two domesticated bunnies running around in my neighbor's yard and she doesn't own any bunnies. I headed to my appt. hoping they would still be there when I returned, and sure enough they were! I was beginning to get concerned about these bunnies roaming around a busy street corner and convinced my husband to help me wrangle them into a large dog kennel. It didn't take much effort and carrots really helped. Once I had them in my possession, I got some bunny supplies together and made them a little home. The next day I made every effort to try and find the owners of these bunnies but had no luck. I then called around to every local bunny rescue, but again had no luck. They were all full of bunnies and not willing to take in anymore. I considered surrendering them to the SPCA to be put up for adoption, but I know the chances of them getting adopted quickly are slim to none. So, after negotiating with my husband for a while, he agreed to let me keep them! At least for now… I may end up finding a better home for them in the future. For now, they are living in my guest bathroom and love it! I am in the process of designing and building a lovely forstress for them in the backyard. I've never owned a rabbit before, so this should be a fun and good learning experience for me as a pet lover and a pet sitter. So, without further delay, below are pictures of Select Pet Care's newest mascots. Vincent is the tan one, and Thomas is the freckled one. They are both boys (may be siblings) and are best friends. They love playing chase and snuggling up together at bedtime (which is in the middle of the day). They are even fond of Ginger and Kiki. Stay tuned to hear more about the bunny care in Allen TX.
